Christie’s Brings In over $3M from Hong Kong Jewelry Sale

8.79-carat diamond ring at Christie's image

A diamond ring offered without reserve brought in HKD 2.5 million ($324,189) at a recent Christie’s jewelry sale in Hong Kong. 

The pear brilliant-cut, 8.79-carat, E-color, flawless diamond ring was the top lot at the auction, selling within its estimate, according to Christie’s. In total, Jewels Online: the Hong Kong Edit , which took place from March 10 to 21, garnered HKD 26.5 million ($3.4 million). 

Other items the auction house offered without reserve scored well above their high estimates, including a ruby and diamond necklace, which more than doubled its HKD 300,000 ($38,594) upper price tag to fetch HKD 604,800 ($77,806). Meanwhile, a cut-cornered rectangular modified brilliant-cut, 10.06-carat, M-color, SI1-clarity diamond ring sold for HKD 529,200 ($68,081), surpassing its HKD 280,000 ($36,022) top price, and an eternity band bearing 14 diamonds weighing a total of 14.08 carats raked in HKD 352,800 ($45,387), beating its HKD 300,000 ($38,594) high estimate. 

Pieces from well-known designers such as Wallace Chan, Van Cleef & Arpels, Chanel, and Cartier also smashed estimates at the sale.

A Graff bracelet set with 28 cut-cornered rectangular modified brilliant-cut diamonds weighing a total of 46.76 carats, including a 4.07-carat center stone, went for HKD 2.4 million ($308,758), within its presale price range.

These earrings, which Christie’s offered without reserve, have emerald-cut diamonds: one, a 5.03-carat, D-color, VS1-clarity, and the other a 5.02-carat, E-color, VVS1-clarity. They brought in HKD 2 million ($257,300), directly in the middle of the estimates.

Another piece sold without reserve was this bracelet, which has 34 emerald-cut, D-color diamonds, ranging from 1 to 1.03 carats, for a total weighing of 34.37 carats. It exceeded its HKD 1.2 million ($154,375) upper estimate to achieve HKD 1.6 million ($210,725).

Just hitting its top price tag was this ring, bearing an emerald-cut, 5.05-carat, E-color, internally flawless diamond. It sold for HKD 1.2 million ($154,375).
