Leading Lots Smash Estimates at Christie’s Geneva

5.03-carat diamond ring at Christie's

Many prominent lots outstripped their estimates at a recent online jewelry sale at Christie’s in Geneva, with some selling for several times their high price.  

The top item was an oval brilliant-cut, 15.03-carat, D-flawless, type IIa diamond ring, which fetched CHF 819,000 ($996,075) at Jewels Online: The Geneva Edit. That piece sold for within its presale estimates at the May 9 to 20 sale, according to the auction house’s website.  

In total, the auction brought in CHF 7.3 million ($8.9 million). Christie’s also offered a range of jewels from well-known design houses, including Bulgari, Cartier, and Van Cleef & Arpels. 

Here are the rest of the top five lots: 

Necklace featuring square emerald-cut diamonds at Christie's image
This necklace features square emerald-cut diamonds of 1 to 5.14 carats, G to I color, and internally flawless to VS2 clarity. It achieved CHF 302,400 ($367,024), beating its high estimate of CHF 280,000 ($339,837).

These earrings, each sporting a natural drop-shaped pearl, also bears 32 carats of old, single-cut and round diamonds, as well as round brown diamonds. It sold for more than 23 times its CHF 12,000 ($14,564) upper price tag, realizing CHF 277,200 ($336,421).

A Cartier bangle brought in CHF 126,000 ($156,900), surpassing its high presale estimate of CHF 70,000 ($84,955). It contains pear-shaped emeralds, onyx cabochon and approximately 22 carats of round diamonds.

A Bulgari set comprising a necklace and a pair of earrings features approximately 48 carats of oval and pear-shaped sapphires, 7.50 to 8 carats of emeralds and about 21.5 carats of diamonds. It more than doubled its CHF 60,000 ($72,777) high estimate to go for CHF 126,000 ($156,900).
