Entire Top 10 Smashes Estimates at Christie’s in Hong Kong

A recent online auction at Christie’s made a splash as a large proportion of lots on offer, including the entire top 10, surpassed their high estimates. 

The highest-performing item at the Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels online auction was a Harry Winston ring with a pear brilliant-cut, 9.73-carat, D-color, SI1-clarity diamond center stone and tapered baguette-cut side stones. It sold for HKD 2 million ($259,288), well above its HKD 850,000 ($109,323) upper price at the auction, which ran from October 23 to November 6, according to Christie’s

In total, the sale brought in HKD 31 million ($4 million). Many pieces from well-known design houses, including Tiffany & Co., Van Cleef & Arpels, Mauboussin, and Cartier, also found buyers.

A suite of four jewels that comprises a necklace, a bracelet, a ring and earrings featuring a total of 20 antique cushion-cut sapphires, as well as diamonds, scored HKD 1.1 million ($137,742), more than double its HKD 500,000 ($64,301) high estimate. 
Pair of earrings contains two heart brilliant-cut diamonds from Christie's image
This pair of earrings contains two heart brilliant-cut, I-color, VS2-clarity diamonds weighing 5.50 and 5.01 carats. It sailed past its HKD 600,000 ($77,162) top price to garner HKD 945,000 ($121,531). 
Diamond pendant with necklace from Christie's image
Set with a heart brilliant-cut, 6.07-carat, G-color, VS1-clarity diamond pendant, this necklace fetched HKD 882,000 ($113,425). It was estimated at up to HKD 600,000 ($77,160). 
Oval-cut Mozambican ruby surrounded by diamonds ring image
A ring bearing an oval-cut, 9.03-carat Mozambican ruby surrounded by diamonds inched past its HKD 800,000 ($102,882) upper price to achieve HKD 882,000 ($113,428). 
Burmese sapphires combined with diamonds earrings Christie's image
Oval-cut Burmese sapphires weighing 7.79 and 7.67 carats combine with diamonds in these earrings, which made HKD 882,000 ($113,428) against a high estimate of HKD 850,000 ($109,312). 
Fancy-intense-yellow diamond ring from Christie's image
This ring has a cut-cornered square modified brilliant-cut, 7.52-carat, fancy-intense-yellow, VS1-clarity diamond. It smashed its HKD 300,000 to HKD 500,000 ($38,580 to $64,301) estimate to bring in HKD 882,000 ($113,422). 
Emerald-cut diamond ring from Christie's image
An emerald-cut, 5-carat, E-color, VVS1-clarity diamond ring went for HKD 819,000 ($105,322), just above its upper price of HKD 800,000 ($102,879). 
Tiffany & Co brooch sold at Christie's image
Jean Schlumberger made this brooch for Tiffany & Co., called Bird on a Rock. The piece, which features a cushion-cut citrine, round diamonds and a pink sapphire realized HKD 567,000 ($72,912), more than double its HKD 280,000 ($36,006) high estimate. 
Cushion Tanzanian spinel set between half-moon-shaped diamonds at Christie's image
A cushion brilliant-cut, 13.89-carat Tanzanian spinel set between half-moon-shaped diamonds sold for HKD 529,200 ($68,052), well over its HKD 280,000 ($36,006) top price.
